Growing up in the suburbs of Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, and attending high school in the capital, I was blessed with the remarkable fortune to enter the university during a separatist war, and a civil war to overthrow the government. Like many kids of my generation in the south of the country, I was lucky enough to survive as a young kid in these wars with some close encounters with all sides (a few of these encounters are narrated in "Stories from Sri Lanka's Civil War" and "Stories from Sri Lanka's Separatist War"). Many kids joined one of the two insurgencies or the military campaigns against those and sacrificed their lives with thousands of others. When the wars escalated into the closing of the universities, I worked at our family printing press. Among many who supported me, I attribute my survival primarily to my parents, teachers, higher education, and my wife, whom I met in college.

This website is dedicated to spreading awareness of these wars.
